& Nicu Support

Experienced, specialized care for babies who need a little more support.

For families navigating premature birth, NICU stays, or more complex feeding challenges, care is approached with an added level of attention, skill, and understanding. Drawing from years of NICU, neonatal transport, and high-risk maternal–infant care, I support both the medical and emotional layers of this experience.

This may include support with oral restrictions such as tongue tie, slow weight gain, triple feeding, feeding transitions, reflux or GI concerns, and coordination with your care team when needed.

These visits are gentle, thorough, and individualized, creating space for both you and your baby to move forward with greater ease and confidence.

Deeply experienced

Julie, owner of Integrative Lactation Services, a smiling female in gray scrubs standing as she prepares for an upcoming NICU complex feeding session with a mother and newborn baby in Bend Oregon

Hi I’m Julie!

A master's-prepared registered nurse, IBCLC, and infant massage instructor with over 30 years of hospital-based mother-baby care, including NICU, neonatal transport, and high-risk labor and delivery. Leading the Redmond Hospital outpatient lactation clinic for eight years with deep care, compassion, and expertise in supporting and navigating simple to complex breastfeeding concerns with families.

My approach is calm, thoughtful, and deeply respectful of each family’s unique needs. I bring both clinical expertise and hands-on experience into every visit, offering guidance that is grounded in evidence while still feeling gentle and supportive.

Having worked with families through both straightforward and complex feeding journeys, I understand how vulnerable and overwhelming this time can feel. My role is to provide steady, trusted support so you can move forward with clarity, confidence, and a sense of calm.

  • "Working with Julie was one of the greatest gifts during our early postpartum journey. "

“She is incredibly knowledgeable, intuitive, and gentle in the way she supported me, my husband and baby. As first-time parents navigating triple feeding with our preemie, we felt overwhelmed and uncertain, but Julie guided us with calm confidence and deep expertise every step of the way.

She has a beautiful, grounded presence that feels both nurturing and reassuring. There’s a subtle spiritual depth to her work that makes you feel truly seen and supported, not just clinically cared for. She consistently checked in, followed up thoughtfully, and made sure we never felt alone in the process. Because of Julie’s guidance, I felt empowered to continue breastfeeding through the uncertainty and challenges of those early weeks. I’m so grateful for her steady support during such a vulnerable and transformative time. My baby is now four months old, and I am still exclusively breastfeeding- with confidence!”

    — Malia

  • "There are people who leave a lasting imprint on you during one of the most vulnerable seasons of life, and Julie is absolutely one of them."

“Breastfeeding can feel overwhelming, emotional, and isolating, but Julie met me with unwavering kindness, patience, and compassion every step of the way. She is incredibly knowledgeable while remaining completely non-judgmental, which made me feel safe, supported, and truly seen. It is so clear that she genuinely loves and cares for every family and every baby she works with, treating each one with tenderness, respect, and intention. She laughed with me, cried with me, and gently eased my worries when everything felt heavy. Julie has a rare ability to bring calm and confidence into moments filled with doubt. She is encouraging, deeply caring, and genuinely exceptional at what she does. I am endlessly grateful for her support and cannot recommend her enough.”

    — Emily

  • "I would absolutely recommend Julie to anyone struggling with breastfeeding or in need of a compassionate and knowledgeable lactation consultant."

“My son was born at 37 weeks and struggled with latching, and I felt completely overwhelmed and unsure of what I was doing. I was using bottles nonstop, trying to triple feed, and spending far too long attempting to breastfeed without clear guidance.

We had a virtual visit with Julie as we live remotely, and she immediately helped calm my panic and create a clear, manageable plan. She explained why a 37-weeker may have latch issues, recommended the best bottles to use while working back to breast, guided me on appropriate latch and timing, feeding amounts, and how to transition off the bottle. She also reviewed proper nipple shield sizing and shared helpful breast exercises to make latching easier for my baby. Julie made sure my husband was included in the visit and gave him practical ways to support me, which meant so much. She turned an incredibly daunting situation into something that felt achievable.”

    — Allie

  • "Julie was the unexpected gift I didn’t anticipate postpartum"

“She was remarkably encouraging, knowledgeable, and nurturing during a very stressful (and exciting!) time in my life. I was struggling with painful, raw nipples and a baby whose weight dropped significantly post-birth. She supported, provided strategies and helped with my baby’s latch so I could eliminate using the nipple shield while breastfeeding. She helped my baby which was born in the less than 10th percentile (growth curve at birth), develop into a greater than 90th percentile toddler! Owen is fifteen months old, almost thirty pounds, and still breastfeeding twice a day. He’s thriving and I owe a lot of that to Julie’s compassion and expertise!
    She’s truly the best!”

    - Kayla

  • “The moment I met Julie I knew I was going to be in great hands. "

“She has a calming and nurturing presence that made me feel safe and comfortable. Julie has helped me through two successful breastfeeding journeys, and I credit a lot of my success to her. Julie has so much experience and knowledge and having her as my lactation consultant helped me so much as a new mom. She has many connections throughout the community, so she knows exactly how to help you or your little one if they need some extra help. I would highly recommend Julie to anyone that is needing help or even just starting your breastfeeding journey, you will not be disappointed.”

    - Linsey

  • "Not only would I highly recommend Julie, but I also wouldn’t go to anyone else!”

“I can’t say enough good things about my experiences with Julie! While I was in the hospital with my first baby, the hospital sent in lactation consultants that didn’t seem to understand my frustrations and were not at all helpful. My baby was fussy all the time, not sleeping, and losing weight. After leaving the hospital I went to Julie. She was a life saver! Her knowledge and compassion turned a stressful situation around with zero judgment. She confidently gave me a plan to move forward and coached me through it. It wasn’t long before my son was eating well, sleeping well, and gaining weight.”

    - Nettice

  • “Julie has been incredibly knowledgeable, kind, caring and supportive."

“ Our first baby was born premature, spending a month in the NICU, with her support we were able to progressively get back to fully breast feeding! She helped us navigate several challenges with continued encouragement, wisdom and support. I would have most likely given up if it wert for her ongoing support and knowledge. Our second was smooth sailing, we have learned so much along the way. We are deeply grateful to have worked with Julie, her expertise, guidance in helping us and our babies get the very best start in life and our breast-feeding journey!”

    Kelsey

  • "Her ability to listen to a mother's intuition and dig deeper for answers is truly what sets her apart!"

"I cannot recommend Julie enough for her incredible investigative approach. Before we met, I was exhausted and felt like my baby was constantly in a state of discomfort that no one could explain. Instead of just giving us a generic feeding plan, Julie took the time to look at every single detail, from my baby’s behavior during feedings to the subtle symptoms I had started to think were just 'normal.' She was the first person to actually connect the dots between what was happening at the breast and how my baby was feeling throughout the day. She didn't just help us with a latch; she helped us uncover why my baby was so unsettled. Her ability to listen to a mother's intuition and dig deeper for answers is truly what sets her apart!”

    - Natalie

  • "There is no possible way for me to say enough positive things about Julie."

“ …and the immense support she has provided during breast-feeding both of my babies. With my first, she helped us navigate many aspects when our baby was struggling with feeding and a tongue tie. We are so grateful for her deep knowledge, guidance and exceptional referrals through this extremely stressful time. With our second, I got mastitis, twice, one bout developed into a breast abscess and was very difficult to treat. Julie knew all the right specialist and care providers to quickly get us help to navigate through this. The tail end of the second bout of mastitis, I developed thrush on my nipples, severe pain and once again, Julie knew exactly what to do how to manage it with expertise, and referrals needed. We are deeply grateful for everything that she has done supporting our family and out breast-feeding journey. She’s the best and I highly recommend her to anyone from simple guidance and support to more complex issues. She’s amazing, we trust her whole heartedly!”

    - Katie

  • "I feel deeply grateful for her ongoing support."

“Having had a previous breast reduction, I was very anxious and stressed about my ability to be able to produce milk and breast feed my baby. Navigating years of infertility and emotional heartache, my wish was to be able to breast feed my baby. Julie supported, cared, provided education and helped to maximize by body’s ability to make breast milk for my baby. I feel deeply grateful for her ongoing support. We combination fed our baby for 6 months, surely, we would have never gotten this far without her support, care and guidance. I will always remember her for believing in the possibilities and cheering us along the way.”

    - Elizabeth

  • "Beyond her clinical expertise, Julie supported me emotionally"

“I worked with Julie for lactation support with all three of my babies, and I cannot recommend her enough. With my first baby, Julie quickly identified a tongue tie that was causing significant pain and latch issues. She helped guide us to the right specialists for correction and connected me with valuable mom support resources.

My second baby was born during COVID, and Julie came to our home to ensure everything was going well, which gave me incredible peace of mind. My third baby spent time in the NICU and was initially bottle-fed. I was determined to breastfeed, and Julie helped me achieve that despite the challenges of pumping, tube feeding, and triple feeding. Beyond her clinical expertise, Julie supported me emotionally during an exhausting and vulnerable time. She cared for both my babies and my mental well-being with compassion and encouragement. Julie is more than a lactation consultant - She is a true gift, and anyone fortunate enough to work with her will never forget her support.

    - Danielle

  • "Her years of experience and knowledge, provided us with the calm confidence "

"If you are struggling, Julie is the expert you need. Her years of experience and knowledge, provided us with the calm confidence we needed desperately. After dealing with severe pain and a baby who was not gaining weight, I was terrified. Julie immediately identified the underlying issues that others missed and created a tailored, actionable plan that saved our breastfeeding journey. She is professional, highly skilled, and provided invaluable advice on latching, pumping, and increasing my supply, supporting out baby’s weight gain, and managing my own stress. My baby is now thriving and mostly feeding at the breast, and I owe so much of this success to her guidance, Julie is wonderful! We highly recommend her to anyone in need of a lactation consultant.”

    - Kendra

“She was foundational in the success with breast feeding my baby, helping us navigate some significant challenges. I struggled with postpartum depression and anxiety; she connected me with medical support I needed, community moms’ group, and patiently provided continued support that I needed to be successful with breast feeding. We are so grateful of her guidance, support, and wisdom which I needed for healing and success, leading to breast feeding success for two years!”

    - Ashley

  • “Julie is compassionate, knowledgeable, and incredibly supportive."

“She acknowledged my struggles and helped guide me toward my breastfeeding goals in a way that felt reassuring and empowering. Not only did I walk away from our sessions with a wealth of knowledge, but also a friend in Julie.  We are eternally grateful for all of her support!”

    - Megan

  • "Julie met me with such calm and kindness"

“I came to Julie feeling overwhelmed and carrying a lot of worry and concern about whether my baby was getting enough. Feeding felt stressful, I was constantly questioning myself and struggling with anxiety. She really listened and helped me slow down and understand what was going on, without ever making me feel rushed or judged. She also helped us uncover some underlying health concerns that were affecting my milk supply. Something that had not been looked at before. That piece alone brought so much clarity, understanding, and relief. With Julie’s support, I started to feel more at ease, more confident, and less anxious with feeding my baby. I’m so grateful for her care, expertise, and support which was more than I had imagined. The care Julie provides is truly special, and it changed our experience in the best way. Our baby is 9 months old and still breast feeding!”

Common Questions

to help you feel understood

  • Under the affordable care act (ACA), health insurance companies must provide breast feeding support, education, counseling, and equipment to prenatal and postpartum patients. A superbill will be provided after appointments and is an itemized document that contains all the information your insurance company needs to process a claim. You can submit this document directly to your health insurance provider for reimbursement (depending on your individual health plans). A superbill allows you to access specialized care while using your insurance benefits, even if your provider is out-of-network.
